Getting a Deep SeatUpdated 3 years ago
What is a 'Deep Seat'?
If you're new here, you might have clicked on this article wondering what a deep seat is - a deep seat just refers to the ideal baby position of babies bum and legs in the sling. It's called a deep seat because the bottom is 'deeper' than the knees, which is ideal!
How do I get a Deep Seat?
There isn't much fabric that needs to go between you and baby. You just want the fabric to go from knee to knee and for baby's bum to sink back into the fabric; it's sort of like sitting on the edge of a hammock, where your butt falls down and your knees are up higher. This can be one of the trickier things to get down when slinging as it is less visible externally when observing tutorials or other babywearers. Important tips for achieving a deep seat:
- Use your arm as a placeholder to pre-tighten sling around before putting baby in. Ideally, you will create a pocket of fabric baby can easily sit into
- Don't overtighten! A deep seat should be snug, but just like a hammock stretched out becomes a flat strip of fabric that's difficult to sit on, an overtightened sling is not comfortable for you or baby.
